Jeffrey A. Batts

Jeffrey A. Batts is a partner in the firm and handles a wide range of business, corporate, and civil litigation matters. In addition to matters in litigation, Jeffrey's practice involves a substantial amount of advice to businesses and the principals and owners of those businesses. Jeffrey has organized a large number of businesses, with emphasis on the form of business, ownership structure, and forward-looking planning for relationships among principals and owners. A number of Jeffrey's matters involve representation of business owners in entities that are facing disputes among owners or other internal challenges.

Jeffrey became a Certified Public Accountant in 1983, and kept his license active until 2006. His experience in the financial aspects of a wide range of businesses provides him with a valuable background in understanding the challenges faced by businesses today.

Jeffrey has served as the Membership Chairman of the Business Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association for the last two years, and was elected to a three-year term on the North Carolina Business Law Council in 2009. Jeffrey also serves as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, and is currently Vice-Chairman of Public Policy for the Chamber. Jeffrey is actively involved in NCLEAP, a project of the North Carolina Bar Association's Business Law Section offering pro bono legal advice to low wealth entrepreneurs.

Jeffrey is a native of North Carolina, born and raised in Rocky Mount. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1981 with a B.S. in Accounting, and graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1986, where he served as Managing Editor of the Wake Forest Law Review.
